not exactly Fort Knox

My name is Marty and I'm here to party.
Oh, and why Mass. Murdera? That was my rap name in 7th grade way back in '99. Get it? I'm from Massachusetts? Oh, yeah? Well fuck you, I still think that shit was pretty clever. I may have peaked in the 7th grade. So what?

Gaslight Anthem-“45” (first single off of HANDWRITTEN)

Easily the album I’m looking forward to the most this year. the Rolling Stone stream sounds better than the radio rip posted above.

Rolling Stone: Combining punk rock, folk and the spirit of Americana, New Jersey rockers the Gaslight Anthem fuel their heartfelt formula with new intensity on “45,” the first single off the upcoming album Handwritten. Well-known for his referential folk-style storytelling, frontman Brian Fallon instead reflects on his own experiences and reels back his deeply embedded references.

Though the band grew their sound immensely on 2010’s American Slang, Fallon wished to return to the driving punk rock that ignited earlier Gaslight Anthem work. With “45,” written early in the creative process, the Gaslight Anthem knew they had the right spark. “This song felt to us like we still had something to say in this long line of rock & roll tradition,” says Fallon. “It made the path clear as to what we should do next. Sometimes you just have to leave things behind … turn the record over.” “45” will be out on iTunes May 8th, with Handwritten set for a July 24th release.

Brian Fallon of the the Gaslight Anthem calls out Dustin of Thrice for being an idiot and breaking up the band over kids after releasing ‘the best record ever’

Fallon starts talking about how every band goes through a Beatles phase and wanting to write a song like ‘Helter Skelter’ (influenced by Thrice’s cover of the song). At the 1 minute 10 mark he then mentions how upset he is that the band broke up over Dustin having kids for about a minute before he rambles on and somehow leads into him talking about a charity against dogfighting and Michael Vick. Of course.

This show happened back in early December in Boston @ Northeastern and I missed it? Eff me. I really dig the Chuck Ragan, Dave Hause, and particularly Dave Grohl (dealing with a teleprompter) mentions he gives throughout the show.

the Gaslight Anthem & Bruce Springsteen-“American Slang”

significantly better quality version this time. Two of my favorites.

the Gaslight Anthem-“Biloxi Parish”

I’ve been listening to this song all summer long so it is definitely one of my favorite songs of the year even though it’s an unreleased song that most likely won’t be recorded onto something until 2012. Bummer. But at least the Horrible Crowes is coming out in a couple of weeks.

(Do excuse the German dialogue in the beginning and at the end though)

Horrible Crowes’ first single “Behold the Hurricane” released (Brian Fallon of the Gaslight Anthem’s side project)

Okay, I am officially all in.

the Horrible Crowes-“Black Betty and the Moon” (Preview track)

Brian Fallon of the Gaslight Anthem’s side project coming out September 6th.

the Gaslight Anthem-“Bring it On”

This has been my favorite band since late 2008 and I don’t think I have gone a day without listening to them since. I’ve just been that hooked/obsessed. This is my favorite song off of American Slang. It’s got this awesome Rolling Stones vibe to it. Not the greatest video, but I’ll take what I can get from them.

Also, Brian Fallon (the singer) has a new side project in the Horrible Crowes with their debut album Elsie coming out in September. I’ll listen to anything he does.

the Gaslight Anthem cover Hot Water Music’s “Trusty Chords”

A follow-up video to Thrice covering Hot Water Music (although this one is about a year old).
I got 2 of my top 5 favorite bands covering another one of my top 5 bands favorite songs. “Trusty Chords” kicks my ass.

the Gaslight Anthem-“Once Upon a Time”*

Feels fitting for MLK Day and a day of remembrance. And being nostalgic maybe. I love the references in this song. Every lyric for their first 2 albums (and EP) are so reference-heavy in each and every song.

^Gervais is NEVER going to host ever again and I suspect he knew that he wasn’t and didn’t care. This clip doesn’t show him making fun of Bruce Willis (introducing him as “Ashton Kutcher’s dad”), Tim Allen, and Robert Downey JR.

SNL Digital Short: Andy Samberg and Pee Wee Herman

http://www.hulu.com/watch/207601/saturday-night-live-digital-short-andy-and-pee-wees-night-out#s-p1-sr-i2

^I watch EVERY SNL episode and usually hate myself for it. I am not kidding, I sometimes have gone two weeks without laughing. Even some of their best and most inspired hosts (Justin Timberlake, Jon Hamm) they sometimes miss on when they return. But this, Gwyneth Paltrow with musical guest Cee-Lo, was the best episode of SNL, from front-to-back, that I have seen in years from SNL. Even my brother and roommate were laughing their asses off. They just nailed it.

I’ve been saying this for awhile, but Jay Pharaoh is not used much (maybe one sketch a week, but everybody’s eyes perks up when he’s on stage. He was on a lot here and got to dead-on impressions of Will Smith and Jay-Z that just makes everybody laugh & look at each other in a ‘did you just see that?’

The Jewish Bar Mitzvah with music stars (Jay-Z; Taylor Swift; Katy Perry; Cee-Lo) and the parody of Shakespeare’s theatre if it were like the movies today were the 2 best sketches. We kept on rewinding it.

But yeah, when a drunk Anderson Cooper tries to sit on a drunk Chairy only to be cursed out just kills me. .gifs have already been made. I went through the roof.
